奥林匹克勾当会因发源于古希腊奥林匹亚(Olympia)也是是以而得名的.。古代奥运会从公元前776年到公元393年，共历经293届，后被罗马天子狄奥多西以邪教勾当罪名而停止。1894年在巴黎召开的国际体育集会，按照法国贵族皮埃尔德顾拜旦(Pierre de Coubertin)的建议建立了国际奥委会，并决议规复奥运会。古代第一届奥运会于1896年在希腊雅典进行，尔后在天下各地轮番进行。因为1924年起头设立了夏日奥林匹克勾当会，是以奥林匹克勾当会习气上又称为“夏日奥林匹克勾当会”。奥林匹克勾当会此刻已成了战争与友情的意味。
